Recognizable as a Belgian ale yeast in esters and phenols, Belgian Dark Ale A's unique characteristic is a much more pronounced spicy tartness that finishes complex and dry. Dark malty flavors are encouraged well by this strain’s overall profile.

This strain tests positive for the STA1 gene, an indicator of Saccharomyces cerevsiae var. diastaticus.  This strain may have the ability to metabolize dextrins over time, resulting in higher than expected attenuation.
